U.S. Secretary of Labor Scalia Highlights Workforce Development in Norfolk and Virginia Beach, Virginia
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Secretary of Labor Eugene Scalia traveled to Norfolk and Virginia Beach, Virginia, to visit a Virginia Career Works job center, to tour the STIHL Incorporated manufacturing facility, and to participate in a roundtable discussion with area business leaders. Secretary Scalia highlighted the Administration’s focus on providing young workers the necessary skills to be successful in today’s economy, America’s manufacturing gains under President Trump’s leadership, and the benefits of the recently signed United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). Secretary Scalia visited the Virginia Career Works center with Congressman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott, who chairs the House of Representatives Committee on Education and Labor and represents much of the Hampton Roads area. “While visiting Norfolk and Virginia Beach, Virginia, I was encouraged to see yet another example of the strength of America’s manufacturing industry,” said Secretary Scalia. “Through workforce development and trade deals like USMCA and the Phase I Agreement with China, this Administration will prepare even more Americans to participate in our nation’s manufacturing resurgence. I want to thank STIHL Incorporated and the Hampton Roads Chamber for their meaningful insight and leadership.” The mission of the Department of Labor is to foster, promote, and develop the welfare of the wage earners, job seekers, and retirees of the United States; improve working conditions; advance opportunities for profitable employment; and assure work-related benefits and rights.
